If you are active with a local coding group how often do you meet? We have an active AAPC chapter here in San Angelo and meet every month except for January usually. Weather is never really a problem in West Texas. We also offer an exam each month. There used to be an active AHIMA chapter but it is no longer meeting.

Do you go to meetings? What benefits do you see in attending local chapter meetings?

I was just recently looking into attending a local AHIMA meeting but am having trouble finding the information on the website. But I do want to go to one.

Yes, it isn't obvious how to find out where your local chapter is from the AHIMA website. Each state has their own website it seems. Start here: http://www.ahima.org/about/csa.aspx. Then scroll down to the list of states, and click on your state. Once on the state association website, look for a link to local associations.

For example, NY State AHIMA has a website called www.nyhima.org. Under the ABOUT button on the top navigation bar, there is a link to Local-Associations. That page had listed the individual local associations by regional area.

The individual websites for each state vary considerably as to where they list the local associations so you may have to hunt around a bit! If you can't find it, perhaps you could find a contact email address and ask the your state's HIMA for chapter information.

Hi Ruth,

Thaks for the link! That's what I needed, nothing in my immediate area right now, but now I can keep checking. There was also some other great info on that site.
Thanks again!

Hi all

This is Karen Fan, my name is not posting for some reason. I am somewhat active in my chapter, Carson Ca. We have meetings monthly. I attend when there is a speaker who is talking about things that I need to know, or if there are people that I know who are going to be at the meeting. A few weeks ago I received a notice from our chapter leader, who was asking all members to meet for a vote of leaders. So I went, and there were only three other people at the meeting. We made the best of it and planned where we needed to improve in member participation, leadership, adding boot camps, and tests. I am very excited to attend the meeting in two weeks and maybe be an officer. Also at our meetings there are people there whom are certified or trying to be in AHIMA and CPC. It makes for very lively meetings with information going both ways hospital and physician based, in some instances both are needed.
